Thursday Illustrator Session (3) Image Trace & Setting up for Laser Cutting

In  this session we were shown how set up a shape to be laser cut.

Stensils need to be outlined in a specific colour so the laser cutter can understand what you want doing with the images.

Red – Where to cut straight through

Blue – Where to etch

Black Fill – Where to raster fill an image, a raster fill cuts a wide area down to lower parts on the material.

Image Trace

We were told how to trace a photograph to make an image that can be laser cut into a chosen material.

First chose an image and go to Object -> Image Trace -> Make By clicking the image trace panel on the top bar to the left of the preset drop down box you can tweak the options to get a cleaner black and white image.
